In a few words, what exactly is Artistic Yoga?
It's a dynamic, faster and more energetic form of Yoga that first makes you fit and slim before you can move into advanced Yogic practices.
Is Artistic Yoga a combination of Aerobics and Yoga?
No. We use Yoga postures in different combinations to get you fit. There is no jumping and no impact on the joints.
Do I need to be flexible to practice Artistic Yoga?
No. Artistic Yoga starts with basic stretches to open up your body. As your flexibility increases, you will be able to push yourself further while doing the same stretches and postures.

What do I need to bring to class? Do I need to bring my own mat?
You just need to bring a small bottle of water, and a hand towel in case you sweat. We provide mats but if you are more comfortable with your own mat you are welcome to bring it with you.
Can I drink water in the middle of the class?
Yes. But take small sips and do it when a break is given. The teacher will usually give enough water breaks depending on the class.
How much gap should I give between my meal and my Yoga class?
Ideally at least 3-4 hours. If you are attending a morning class, you may have a fruit or a juice before class. Avoid eating a full breakfast before a Yoga class. If you're attending an evening class, try to finish your lunch by 2pm. A cup of tea and biscuits 2 hours before class is ok but just before class is unpleasant. You know how that feels!
I just ate a whole sub. Should I skip class or still go ahead with it?
If you are starving just before class, a glass of juice or a fruit is a better bet if you want to attend class. Eating a salad an hour before class is manageable. But eating a huge meal and then attending class is not recommended nor enjoyable.
I smoke, drink and also enjoy eating meat? Do I have to quit all or any of these if I want to start Artistic Yoga?
No. As they say, never leave a habit, let the habit leave you. Abstaining from things when you are drawn towards them creates mental problems. Once you start Yoga, your smoking may reduce on its own (as it is harmful to your system). Your may find a balance in your drinking and eating meat is your choice as long as you feel it suits your system. Being vegetarian is not a must.

Can I lose weight with Artistic Yoga?
Yes. The combination of techniques are intended to bring you to your ideal weight in the fastest possible time as Artistic Yoga works on your body through muscle toning, breath control, removal of blockages and hormonal balance.
What about figure correction and body sculpting?
When you stretch your muscles while performing a posture, the muscles elongate and align. Also, you may Initially see a lot of inch loss as compared to weight loss as muscle is heavier than fat. Sculpting your body or correcting your figure is a natural outcome as Yoga doesn't simply burn calories but reshapes your body.
How much can I expect to lose?
Around 2-5 kgs a month. But it also depends on other factors like age, history, lifestyle and diet.
Do I need to be on a specific diet while practicing Artistic Yoga?
We do recommend a change in eating habits if needed, but no strict diets should be followed as it is harmful to the body metabolism in the long run.
Can I gain weight with Artistic Yoga?
Yes. But only if you are underweight. Artistic Yoga balances your hormones and increases muscle tone which leads to weight gain.

I tried an Artistic Yoga class but it was too vigorous for me. Any suggestions?
It's a natural feeling initially as our classes are designed to challenge you in many ways. Talk to the teacher concerned and try the classes for at least a week so that you can settle into the system. If you look around you will see all kinds of people, men and women of different ages and levels of fitness. What you feel is impossible to do becomes effortless in a few days or weeks! If you have a specific problem, you need to inform the teacher so that he/she can monitor your class individually.

I tried a class but have severe body pain the next day. I never want to do Yoga!
On a rare occasion, some people push themselves using their will power even though their body is incapable of performing certain things. For your first class remember to go slow and do just what you can. But if you've already done the damage, make sure you attend the next class and go slow. The best way to get rid of body pain, in most cases, is to do another class of Yoga slowly focussing on the stretches. You will feel relieved immediately.

How come you play music during class! Isn't Yoga to be practiced in silence?
Blame it on the stressful and busy lifestyle that most of us lead these days. Some music is played in the background just so that you disconnect from the external world and enter into a space where your thoughts automatically cease. Music helps to do this, especially in the beginning of the class. Towards the end of the class the music is turned off when breathing and meditation is taught and practiced.

Can I answer my mobile during class? I have a 6-month old baby at home who may need my attention.
All mobiles are to be turned off or on silent mode as this is a time for a student to be completely in the class with no distractions whatsoever. Please make the necessary arrangements so that your class works for you and also doesn't disturb the rest of the students.

I have diabetes. Can Artistic Yoga cure me of it?
Yoga is generally considered as preventive and not curative when it comes to diseases that have already reached an advanced stage. However many people with Ashthma, Diabetes, Arthiritis and many such problems have seen improvements in their health, sometimes even if it is the ability to cope up with the problem and alleviate some of the effects.

I have back pain regularly. Will Artistic Yoga help? I don't want the pain to get worse!
Do talk to the teacher when you come in for a trial class. Make sure you go slow and avoid the postures as instructed by the teacher. Unless you have a severe slipped disc condition, your back pain will greatly reduce or be cured completely. However, do consult with your doctor before you come for the class.

I am a highly stressed out person and I get upset fast. My work is also very demanding and I cannot do much to change my lifestyle. Can Artistic Yoga really help? I need a straight answer.
Yes. You just need to give yourself 4 hours a week. Test it out for a month and see the changes for yourself.

I am already a Yoga practitioner for the last 20 years. How will Artistic Yoga benefit me?
If you are already a Yoga lover, you already know the benefits. You are, in some ways, in the best position to enjoy our unique style of Yoga. Artistic Yoga will challenge you to experiment with a greater range of postures, in order to move deeper into the postures you have already mastered. You will improve control over your body and your practice will become more meditative. Do try out a class and experience it for yourself.

I'm more interested in the spiritual aspects of Yoga. Is it worthwhile starting Artistic Yoga classes as they seem to be more physical than spiritual?
The mind and the body are really not separate from each other. Our classes are great workouts but at the end you will find yourself in a truly meditative and silent state of mind. The last part of every class focusses on Pranayama, Bandhas, Kriyas and Mudras. You can always talk to the teacher after class to guide you with higher practices that you can practice at your home. Remember that meditation is not something to be practiced but a state to fall into. Hatha Yoga or physical yoga does just that. Additionally, you can attend one of Bharat Thakur's meditation workshops as and when they happen in your city.
How is the meditation workshop conducted by Bharat Thakur different from Artistic Yoga classes?
The meditation workshop is a one or two-day session in which Bharat Thakur personally takes you into state of meditation by teaching and using ancient techniques from many traditions like Tantra, Sufi or Zen. Its a powerful program that is cathartic and transforming. Yoga is a part of the program but the focus is on instilling the seed of awareness in you so that your life is truly transformed and your perspective on it changes forever. It is a one of a kind experience like nothing you may have done before. For more details click here.
