The Path of Tantra
For fifteen centuries, several realized Masters of the tantric path used the crucible of their own bodies and lives to develop a powerful tradition; a tradition that requires the courage to engage your body, your human desires and your most challenging life-obstacles as the basic ?fuel? for insight and as an accelerated means to enlightenment.
 
Yatha Bramhand Tatha Pind ? which means all that is contained in the Whole is contained in the part. Tantra is the play of the dual principles: the conscious-unconscious, male-female, in breath-out breath, night and day, sun and moon, love and hate, heat and cold, birth and death, within each individual. One cannot exist without the other.
 
Tantra is made up of two syllables, tanoti, which means ?expansion? and trayati, ?liberation?; the expansion of mind and the liberation of energy from the clutches of matter to spirit. At the heart of Tantra is the union of the Male Shiva and his consort, the Female Shakti. Tantric texts are, in essence, the eavesdropping on a conversation between lovers, Parvati, the primordial energy and Shiva, the primordial consciousness. He is Grace and She, receptivity. This is the ultimate symbol of Tantra; the sacred weaving of polarities which melt into one unified whole. .
 
According to Tantra, the universal consciousness descends towards manifestation as individual consciousness, assuming four states known as buddhi, manas, chitta and Ahamkara. Buddhi represents the higher intellect with its activity of viveka or discrimination; manas is the lower mind with its characteristic leanings towards sankalpa- vikalpa or thoughts and counter-thoughts (duality).
